Thirty disadvantaged families in Pike County Missouri are enjoying a holiday feast.

Two businesses and a social service agency teamed up Monday to provide Thanksgiving dinners.

The boxes feature a frozen turkey, stuffing, vegetables, cranberry sauce, pumpkin pie and other goodies.

Meridian Waste Eagle Ridge Landfill bought the food from Save-A-Lot Food Stores of Bowling Green. The North East Community Action Corporation is distributing the boxes.

One recipient was truly grateful, calling the donation a “godsend” and adding that without the help she, her husband and their nine-year-old son would have little for Thanksgiving dinner.

NECAC also will participate in the Salvation Army’s kettle drive in Pike County starting Thanksgiving night.
