A suspicious person report Wednesday in the 26-hundred block of St. Marys results in an arrest by Hannibal Police.

Officers received a report of an individual attempting to break into vehicles in that area. Police located a man matching the description walking nearby. When police contacted  him, officers say he threw a small black box containing tools to the ground and denied any knowledge of it.

Police say 49-year-old James Elzea of Hannibal was detained and searched. Officers located several keys and an open bottle of liquor on Elzea. He is charged with open liquor, interfering with arrest and resisting arrest.

Elzea was placed on a 24 hour hold at the Marion County Jail. Hannibal Police ask that you contact them if items are missing from your vehicle.
