A suspect has been charged with Assault of a Law Enforcement Officer in the second degree following an incident early on Sunday morning.

According to a release by the Marion County Prosecuting Attorney, Officer William Traw of the Hannibal Police Department was injured during a struggle with one Damien J. Gray who had been pulled over for driving with no headlights or taillights shortly before 2:00 am. During the altercation, both Gray and Traw fell to the ground which led to Traw’s hand being injured. X-rays revealed that his pinky finger was fractured and his flexor tendon had been ruptured.

Gray is currently in the Marion County Jail and bond has not been set yet. If convicted, Gray, who has an extensive criminal history, faces between five and fifteen years in prison.
