The summer of 2016 is expected to get off to a hot and perhaps stormy start in northeast Missouri and western Illinois.

Summer officially begins at 5:37 p.m. CDT Monday, and National Weather Service forecasters say a chance of showers and thunderstorms moves into the area Monday afternoon and remains through Wednesday night. The best chances of precipitation are Monday night through Tuesday night.

After sunny to partly cloudy conditions Thursday and Friday, a slight chance of more rain and storms moves into the area for the weekend.

There will be little relief from the heat for the week. Except for a high in the mid 80s Tuesday, every day through Sunday will see highs in the low to mid 90s. Lows for the week will run from the upper 60s to mid 70s.
