Sturgeon Officials Vote to Keep Police Chief

Officials in a central Missouri community have voted to keep their police chief, who last month pointed an unloaded gun toward a maintenance worker.

The Columbia Daily Tribune reports the Sturgeon Board of Aldermen voted in a closed meeting to retain police Chief Greg Halderman.

Halderman told the Boone County Sherriff's Department during its investigation that he asked Sgt. Mike Hanks if he could test out his weapon, because he was thinking about changing his.

Halderman says he pointed the gun around the office when the maintenance worker walked in. The worker asked Halderman to point the gun away from him, and Halderman apologized.

Mayor Gene Kelly asked for Halderman's resignation after the worker filed a formal complaint. Kelly said there would be no further comments on the incident.
