A suburban St. Louis woman is accused of endangering her two children by overdosing on heroin while cooking dinner.

The St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports St. Charles County prosecutors have charged 29-year-old Amber Lynn Strong with two counts of endangering the welfare of a child and one count of possession of a controlled substance. She's also charged with unlawful use of drug paraphernalia, a misdemeanor.

Authorities allege Strong was making dinner for her children, ages 8 and 7, when she passed out from a heroin injection. Investigators say one of the children injured her hand while removing food from the oven so it didn't burn.

Authorities say the children then walked along a busy Interstate 70 outer road for help.

Online court records don't show whether Strong has an attorney.
