Illinois State Police say speed is a factor in a traffic crash last September that killed two John Wood Community College baseball players near campus.

The report indicates the vehicle driven by 20 year old Edrick Rivera was traveling between 76 and 78 miles per hour at the time of the crash. The speed limit on 48th where the crash occurred is 45 miles per hour. Police say an examination of Rivera’s vehicle revealed that the headlight switch was in the off position. Based on the investigation… no charges will be filed against the 17 year old driver of the other vehicle involved.
