A 54-year-old southwestern Illinois man has been ordered to spend more than eight years in federal prison for possessing thousands of images of child pornography.

Arlynn Gene Georgeson of Glen Carbon pleaded guilty in June to felony charges of receiving and possessing child pornography. He was sentenced last week in East St. Louis.

Authorities say Georgeson had more than 16,000 pornographic images of children on his computer, along with hundreds of sexually explicit videos, some of which involved infants.

A judge says Georgeson has to pay $1,000 in restitution to one of the victims portrayed in images on his laptop.

Georgeson also must spend five years of post-prison supervised release.
