Observers say snow geese are showing up in record numbers in eastern Missouri and western Illinois, possibly driven there by the weather. Heavy snow in northern and western Missouri could have diverted their annual migration on the way to their nesting grounds in the Arctic.

Witnesses say as many as 50 thousand snow geese have landed in a single field and they seem to be lingering in the area. Large numbers of snow geese could be seen in recent days in the Sny east of Hannibal.

One wildlife biologist says they won’t stay long, predicting they will be headed north again soon.
