Investigators say skeletal remains found in a Champaign home likely belong to a 47-year-old man who may have died last August.

Champaign County Coroner Duane Northrup says investigators believe the body belongs to Donald Allen, who lived in the home. DNA tests will confirm the man's identity.

The body was discovered in a bed on Wednesday. Because it was so badly decomposed, Northrup says he couldn't determine a cause of death, although he believes the man died from natural cases. He says there were no signs of trauma to the remains.

Champaign Police Sgt. Dennis Baltzell says authorities are examining why it took so long for the death to be reported.
