Drivers no longer have to detour onto Forrest Drive or Emergency Drive when accessing medical facilities west of Hannibal. The Shinn Lane Roundabout opened late Friday afternoon. I spoke with an employee at the Abel’s Shell on Shinn Lane, who said as of 6 p.m. Friday, drivers seemed to be navigating the roundabout fairly well.

Construction of the roundabout necessitated the closure in May of a portion of Shinn Lane in front of Hospital Drive. The Shinn Lane Roundabout cost the City around $1.6 million, minus a $332,000 MoDOT grant.

An estimated 2,000 people commute to work in the area, which includes the medical campus, college, hotels, and other businesses.
