On Tuesday, July 16th, officers of the Hannibal Police Department Narcotics Unit received information of possible drug activity at a residence in the 1000 block of Ely St. Narcotics officers contacted the residents and received consent to search the home.

During the course of the search officers located and seized approximately 4 pounds of what is believed to be marijuana, several controlled prescription pills, drug paraphernalia, items commonly used in the distribution of a controlled substance and a large amount of cash.

41 year old Shawn L Otten, of Hannibal, was arrested and charged with Distribution of a Controlled Substance. Otten was placed on a 24 hour hold in the Marion County Jail. On Wednesday, July 17th, the 10th Judicial Circuit Court issued a warrant for Otten, charging him with Distribution of a Controlled Substance, a class B Felony. Bond was set at $100,000.00. Otten remains in the Marion County Jail.

A criminal charge is merely an allegation and the defendant is, of course, presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
