A growing number of area fire departments have issued burn bans for their districts due to dry conditions.

The city of Hannibal issued a burn ban Friday morning until further notice. City residents are also reminded they can take yard waste to the Street Department facility on Warren Barrett Drive.

Also issuing burn bans until further notice are the Hannibal Rural Fire Protection District, the Palmyra Fire Department, fire officials in Ralls County, along with officials in southern and eastern Pike County, Illinois.

Officials cite the continued lack of rain, dry vegetation, low humidity and persistent winds in issuing the bans for the use of fire outside.
