Illinois’ senior U.S. Senator is the latest elected official to weigh in on the presence of Legionella Bacteria at the Illinois Veterans’ Home in Quincy.

Senator Dick Durbin visited the veterans’ home Friday to meet with leadership and to tour the facility.

Durbin called for better transparency from Governor Bruce Rauner’s office in disclosing new cases of Legionnaire’s Disease, and urged the state to comply with all the recommendations of the Centers for Disease Control to prevent future outbreaks.

Since 2015, more than 60 people at the home have contracted Legionnaire’s Disease, 13 of whom have died.
