(Hannibal) – Last Friday, Hannibal Police were called to Hannibal Regional Hospital to assist the Division of Family Services in connection with a one year infant who had been severely burned.

An investigation determined that 20-year-old Marvin Abbey of Hannibal had been caring for the child and attempted to give the child a bath. The child was apparently scalded, suffering second degree burns on her face and a large portion of her body.

A warrant was issued Tuesday, charging Abbey with second degree assault. He also has an outstanding Illinois warrant for possession of marijuana.

Abbey is in the Marion County Jail on $100-thousand dollars cash only bond. At last report, the child was in critical but stable condition at St. Louis Children’s Hospital.
