Here's another excuse to get in shape. In the past, we've talked about events like the Hannibal Cannibal and the Mississippi River Run as ways to get off the couch and get active. These events are both happening this summer, so if you need something to shoot for to get in shape, you can start now.

I mention this because I visited with Lynn Shima on Talk Back this morning about another such event -- the 2012 Heart Walk. That will be Saturday, Sept. 22 on the Hannibal Regional Hospital campus. The Cannibal is a fund raiser for the hospital, the River Run is put on by the Hannibal Clinic, while the Heart Walk benefits the American Heart Association.

Lynn talked about how heart disease is the number one killer in the United States -- more than cancer or accident or anything else. The vast majority of us have been affected by heart disease is someway or other (my mother died of heart disease about a year ago).

So, if you want to get serious about this getting in shape thing, how about all three -- the Cannibal in July, the River Run in August and the Heart Walk in September.
