(PALMYRA)—Former Palmyra teacher Randall Shepard is sentenced to five years in prison following a guilty plea to charges of endangering the welfare of a child. That charge is a class C felony.

Judge Rachel Bringer issued the sentence Thursday following the guilty plea on a lesser charge. Shepard was originally charged with statutory rape, statutory sodomy and sexual contact with a student by a teacher in connection with an alleged incident on school grounds with a 16 year old girl.

The allegations surfaced in January and Shepard was immediately placed on administrative leave. He was dismissed in February following an investigation.
