Ralls County Water District officials are looking to end a water purchase agreement with the city of Hannibal.

The move comes following recent concerns about Hannibal’s drinking water. Ralls County is considering supplying its own water through an in ground treatment facility.
The majority of water tests show contaminants below levels allowed by Missouri Department of Natural Resources and the EPA. Ralls County Water District currently spends about $650,000 per year on water purchased from the City of Hannibal. The new project cost is about $11.75 million.
If Ralls County moves ahead, it plans to raise rates 20 to 25 percent to pay for the project.
