A deputy with the Ralls County Sheriff’s Office is recognized for going above and beyond to save a life.

Sheriff Gerry Dinwiddie presented a formal letter of recognition Thursday to Deputy Connor Whicker.

The letter notes that on March 24th, Whicker responded to a residential fire. Seeing that the fire was threatening a neighboring home, he moved to evacuate two of the residents inside the home.

There was also a paralyzed male subject in the home that could not be moved from his bed. Deputy Whicker stayed with the man until help arrived to move him to safety.

Sheriff Dinwiddie said that Whicker placed himself in harm’s way and remained calm until a solution could be found to the situation.
