(NEW LONDON)-A required routine audit of Ralls County by the Missouri State Auditor’s office terms overall performance of the county as fair. County official say they’ll work to correct the shortcomings. State Auditor Tom Schweich says the Ralls County Sheriff’s department needs to improve its performance on receipting procedures. The audit report also says the county needs to improve controls and procedures over the property tax system. The audit found that neither the county commission nor the county clerk reviews activities of the county collector to ensure accuracy and completeness of monthly and annual statements. The Auditor’s office also says the county commission is violating state law by paying the prosecuting attorney an additional 14 thousand 400 dollars to consult the planning and zoning commission. Schweich’s office says those duties are to be compensated by the base salary.
