A head-on collision in Ralls County results in both drivers being airlifted to trauma centers. Multiple agencies responded to the crash scene on Highway 61, 2 miles north of Frankford at 7:42 a.m. Sunday.

The Highway Patrol reports a southbound pickup driven by 25-year-old Dennis Powell of Hannibal first struck the side of a bridge.  His truck then ran off the left side of the road, crossed the median and struck a guard rail.  The pickup then crashed head-on into a northbound vehicle driven by 71 year-old Carol Race of Kirksville.

Powell sustained serious injuries and was transported by Survival Flight to University Hospital in Columbia.  Race had moderate injuries and went to Mercy Hospital in St. Louis by Air Evac.

Troopers were assisted by the Ralls and Pike County Sheriff’s Office, New London and Hannibal Fire Departments, and Ralls, Pike and Marion County Ambulance crews.
