Quincy University to Celebrate 50 Years of Men’s Soccer

Quincy University will kick off its 50 Years of Men’s Soccer celebration with the dedication of Jack Mackenzie Field and Jack Mackenzie Drive on Friday, September 13, and the induction of five men’s soccer teams into the Quincy University Hall of Fame on Saturday, Sept. 14.

The 2014 season will mark the 50^th anniversary of men’s soccer at Quincy University. The first season of soccer came in 1964 under Coach Frank Longo. That team will be inducted into the QU Hall of Fame along with the 1967, 1971, 1973 and 1974 teams that won NAIA National Championships. The 1967 team was coached by Roger Francour while the 1971, 1973 and 1974 teams won the first of nine national titles under Jack Mackenzie, who served as head coach from 1969-2011. Mackenzie is currently the associate head coach of the men’s soccer program.

The induction ceremony will take place in Quincy University’s Hall of Fame Room in the Health & Fitness Center on September 14 at 5 p.m. The event is open to the public and will start at 5 p.m. with dinner being served at 5:30 p.m. Cost is $15 and includes dinner. Prior to the QU men’s soccer game against Missouri-St. Louis on Friday, September 13, the Hawks will officially dedicate Jack Mackenzie Field, which has been resurfaced with artificial turf. The ceremony will begin at approximately 6:45 p.m., pending the end of the women’s soccer game between the Lady Hawks and Tritons, which kicks off at 5 p.m.

The Hawks will also commemorate Jack Mackenzie Drive, which will be the new honorary name of Seminary Road between 12^th and 18^th Streets in Quincy where Legends Stadium resides.

The members of the five Hall of Fame team inductees will also be recognized at halftime of the men’s game.
