Quincy Police warn that a telephone scam that has made the rounds before is back in the area.

QPD reports the return of the scam in which victims receive calls or messages demanding payment of money owed to the Internal Revenue Service.

The calls may be threatening in nature, stating the victim has 24 hours to respond or they will be arrested.

Police say if you get one of these calls, hang up. If you get a message about money owed to the IRS, don’t respond to it.

The IRS does not contact individuals by phone.
