Quincy Police report a number of complaints have been received from citizens who have fallen victim to something known as the Grandparent Scam.

QPD reports that this phone scam happens when the scammer calls the victim, pretending to be the grandchild of the victim, saying they have been arrested or involved in an accident and need money.

They will ask the victim to either wire money or sent gift cards to them and not to tell other family members.

Officers advise that if you receive one of these calls, hang up or ask for a phone number to call the person back, then call the grandchild or their parents for verification.

If you have questions about the Grandparent Scam, you’re asked to contact Detective Adam Gibson at 217-592-3604.
