The Quincy Police officer who fatally shot a Quincy man in a May incident will not be prosecuted.

According to Adams County State’s Attorney Gary Farha, a review of the investigation by the Illinois State Police into the shooting involving officer Steve Bangert indicates that the officer’s actions were justified and that there will be no criminal prosecution.

The Quincy Police Department also released the results of its internal review into the shooting.

According to Chief Rob Copley, the use of force by Officer Bangert was lawful, justified, proper and within policy.

On May 14th, Bangert was one of those responding to a report of suspicious activity in the 11th and Jackson area.

The suspect, 53 year old Rollie Davis, Jr. pulled out what was later determined to be a pellet gun, and was fatally shot by Bangert.

Bangert had been on administrative leave pending the completion of the investigation.
