Crossing the Mississippi River at Quincy will be a little more complicated this summer.

Officials with the Illinois Department of Transportation report that work on both the Quincy Memorial and Bayview Bridges will result in lane closures from late May through the end of August.

Work crews will start in mid-March cleaning and beginning preliminary repairs on both bridges.

The major work on Memorial Bridge begins after the Bridge the Gap race in May. At that point, Memorial Bridge will be closed, with two-way traffic on the Bayview Bridge until the work is completed.

The work on Memorial Bridge includes repair or replacement of some of the structural steel along with some concrete work.
