Yet another major Quincy retailer is closing its doors.

Officials with Sears Holdings announced Monday that the K-Mart store, a long time fixture on East Broadway, will close for good before the end of the year.

The announcement comes on the heels of news that K-Mart’s parent company, Sears Holdings, revealed that they are filing for Chapter 11 bankruptcy.

The company makes the move to, “position the Company to establish a sustainable capital structure, continue streamlining its operating model and grow profitably for the long term.”

The Quincy K-Mart is one of 143 store closings announced Monday.
A liquidation sale is expected to start at the local store in the next two weeks.

K-Mart becomes the fourth major chain store in Quincy to close in less than two years, following J.C. Penney, Bergner’s and Sears.
