Round one of the 2018 edition of the Battle for the Paddle goes to the Quincy Gems as they knock off the Hannibal Hoots 7-2 Friday night.

Hannibal scored first, as DH Dylan Dodd doubled to lead off the fourth and scored on a single by third baseman Joe Roscetti.

But the Gems bounced back in the fifth, scoring four times, with RBI's by catcher Ryan Knershield, left fielder Tyler Stokes and third baseman Corey Young.

Quincy added single tallies in the sixth, seventh and eighth. The Hoots scored once more in the eighth, as Dodd doubled again and scored on a throwing error.

Hannibal native Dalton Overstreet pitched the first 4 1/3 innings for the Hoots, taking the loss.

Hannibal falls to 1-2 with the loss, while Quincy improves to 2-0.

The Terre Haute Rex come to Clemens Field Saturday night, with the first pitch at 6:35.
