Some Quincy residents are complaining about the taste of tap water in recent days.

Quincy Director of Utilities and Engineering Jeffrey Conte says they have collected and tested water samples around town concentrating in areas where complaints have been highest. Results were discussed with the Illinois Environmental Protection Agency and all test results indicate the water is safe to drink. Water levels and naturally occurring organic matter in the Mississippi River and chlorine added to the water are the cause of the taste issues. Quincy experienced similar taste and odor issues in 2012 and again in 2014. Other Illinois municipalities relying on river water are also experiencing similar taste and odor issues.
