The Missouri State Highway Patrol has announced the arrest of 57-year-old Bruce Smith Sr. of Livonia, Missouri. Smith is accused of murdering his wife, 56-year-old Jani Smith.

According to the Patrol, Jani Smith was found dead insider her home in Livonia, Missouri on July 3. During the investigation, Bruce Smith Sr. was identified as a suspect and law enforcement agencies were informed by the Putnam County Sheriff's Department that he was wanted. On Saturday, July 4, 2015, Deputies of the Tama County, Iowa, Sheriff’s Office located Bruce Smith Sr. and he was taken into custody.

Smith has been formally charged with 1st Degree Murder by the Putnam County Prosecuting Attorney and is currently being held at the Tama County jail, in Iowa, on a $250,000 cash only bond. Arrangements are being made to transport Smith back to Missouri.

Livonia is a small village in Putnam County in north central Missouri, with a population of only about 73, according to the United States Census Bureau.
