Quincy Police credit an overwhelming public response in the arrest of a Quincy woman Friday for walking off with a misplaced cell phone.

Police were called to the Cenex gas station on South 8th Thursday afternoon. They were told that a 12-year-old girl has accidentally left her cell phone at the station. By the time she realized the phone was gone and returned to the station, the phone has disappeared.

Video surveillance footage showed a woman taking the phone and putting it in her pocket.

Police received numerous calls identifying the woman as 32 year old Penny Luckett, who was taken into custody at 2:48 p.m. Friday.

Luckett was released with a notice to appear for suspected theft of lost or mislaid property.
