A preliminary hearing was set Friday for a Las Vegas man held in connection with the death of his father in Hannibal.

Appearing before Marion County Circuit Judge John Jackson, 29-year-old Carl Goldberg next court date was set for November 23.

For now, Goldberg is charged with exploitation of an elderly person. He is also a suspect in the death of his father, 84-year-old Carl Maxwell.

Maxwell’s body was found in a vacant house at 2034 Broadway last October. Police determined Carl Maxwell had been dead about eight months.

The Marion County Prosecutor’s Office continues to gather information so that murder charges can be filed against Goldberg.

Goldberg remains in the Marion County Jail.
