Hannibal Public School District officials say administrators at the Middle School responded to a potential threat Tuesday.

A statement from Superintendent Susan Johnson says school personnel and Hannibal Police Department School Resource Officers acted on this information and took steps necessary to protect the students, faculty and staff of Hannibal Middle School from potential harm. Johnson thanks those responsible for making us aware of the potential threat and reminds everyone that they should feel comfortable sharing any information that affects the safety of our students, faculty and staff with law enforcement and school officials as soon as they learn of it.
Due to an ongoing investigation by law enforcement and Juvenile Office authorities the specific nature of the threat is not being revealed.
