An event that has become an autumn destination in western Illinois has been cancelled.

In a post on its website, officials with the Pike County, Illinois Fall Color Drive announced that, after 29 years, the annual October event has come to an end.

In 2015, a vendor at one of the stops on the color drive sold apple cider that made several visitors ill. As a result, multiple lawsuits were filed against the color drive and its officers.

An investigation into what liability insurance would cost to continue the event revealed a cost that resulted in over half the locations that had been a part of the color drive backing out.

Color drive officials said they felt they had no choice but to discontinue the event.
