While searching for a photograph of Mark Twain needed for a news story, I came across a number of old pictures of sites in and around Hannibal. Most were taken in the mid-1950s.

These photos were in an image archive that is used by journalists around the country, so the focus is mainly on items of interest to a wide audience. That's another way of saying "mostly Mark Twain stuff." Even though the subjects tend to be a bit touristy, there are a few shots that locals will find interesting. I'm thinking mainly of views of Main Street and some old road signs outside of town. Of course, they're all shot by professionals, so even the touristy images are at least pleasant to look at.

Take a look back into Hannibal's past. If you're old enough, you might even remember some of the buildings and landmarks that are no longer with us.
