The longtime Adams County Sheriff’s Department’s Chief Deputy has been named to replace Brent Fischer as sheriff, pending the approval of the county board.

Fischer began his new duties Monday as Executive Director of the Illinois Law Enforcement Training and Standards Board. Fischer appointed Chief Deputy Brian Vonderhaar as acting sheriff until the county board meets February 9th. The board is expected to approve the appointment at that time.

Vonderhaar has been with the sheriff’s department since 1990. If he’s approved by the board, he will serve until at least November when an election is held to see who will fill out the final two years of Fischer’s term.
