Residents along a one-block stretch of Payson Avenue were evacuated from their homes as the result of a natural gas leak in Quincy Wednesday morning.

City crews were digging to work on water lines at 1127 Payson Avenue just after 10 a.m. when they hit a natural gas line.

Residents on Payson Avenue between 12th and 13th were evacuated until the leak could be repaired.

The leak was repaired and residents returned to their homes around 11:15 a.m.

An Ameren spokesperson said ten gas customers were impacted by the leak.
