A partnership between the Illinois Veterans’ Home and the Quincy Park District results in enhancements to a park on the grounds of the home.

In a press release from the Illinois Department of Veterans Affairs, veterans’ home officials report that park district employees have been working on the Lynn Deer Park, adding a nutritious pasture mix for the deer and other animals that call the park home.

The deer on the grounds have been penned up while this work has been going on. Weather permitting, the deer will be allowed back in their normal roaming area within the next couple of weeks.

The park area was originally developed in 1858, and became a part of the veterans’ home grounds when the home opened in 1886.
