KHMO News has confirmed a body was recovered from the scene of the fire at 607 Broadway. Hannibal Fire officials have not released the victim's name.

The fire broke out shortly after 8 a.m. Saturday.  Fire Chief Sean Hampton said all available personnel responded.  Extra firefighters were called in, with a total of 22  on the scene.

Firefighters arrived to find heavy smoke and fire on the first floor.  Their efforts were hampered by the collapse of the second floor onto the first.  Crews remained on the scene throughout the day.

Saturday afternoon, the Hannibal Street Department brought equipment in to remove debris, so firefighters could extinguish remaining hot spots.

A Fire Marshall was called in to investigate.  The cause is still undetermined.  No firefighters were injured.  At least one dog is reported to have perished in the fire.

Businesses on either side of the building were closed Saturday--the Rialto Banquet Center and Rookies Sports Bar.  Both suffered smoke and water damage.  The  historic Rialto had just recently undergone extensive renovations.
