Officials with the Adams County State’s Attorney’s Office have released the names of the individuals involved in the officer involved shooting in Quincy Monday night.

According to State’s Attorney Gary Farha, Quincy Police Officer and Instructor Steve Bangert discharged his firearm, striking and fatally wounding 53 year old Rollie Davis, Sr., also of Quincy, about 8:30 p.m. Monday.

Officers had responded to a report of suspicious activity in the 11th and Jackson area.

The initial police report indicated that Davis pulled out what appeared to be a pistol, and was fatally shot.

Farha says the investigation has been turned over to the Illinois State Police. So far, investigators have learned that Davis had multiple outstanding warrants for his arrest. And, what is described as a weapon closely resembling a firearm was found at the scene near Davis’ body.

Farha says the investigation is ongoing and that Officer Bangert has been placed on paid administrative leave until the investigation is complete.
