The Missouri Highway Patrol has released its traffic numbers for the just completed Christmas holiday weekend.

Troopers report that nine people lost their lives in traffic crashes on Missouri highways over the weekend. That’s two more deaths than were reported in 2017.

Troopers also report they handled 294 crashes with 80 injuries. There were 106 DWI arrests for the weekend.

This year’s fatalities were scattered around the state. There were three fatals in the Blue Springs area, two each in the Weldon Springs and St. Joseph areas and one each in the Springfield and Rolla areas.

There were no traffic fatalities reported in northeast Missouri over the Christmas weekend.

The 2018 Christmas reporting period ran from 6 p.m. Friday until midnight Tuesday.
