Sixteen people are facing charges after the first outing of the new Southeast Missouri Street Crimes Task Force.

The Southeast Missourian reports that the task force brings together officers from Cape Girardeau, Sikeston, Poplar Bluff and Charleston to target areas with heavy concentrations of gun violence.

Cape Girardeau Police Chief Wes Blair says offenders often move between the towns. By pooling resources, police hope to drive offenders out of the area.

The task force on April 25 focused on a section of Cape Girardeau, where 16 suspects face charges ranging from drug violations to outstanding warrants to misdemeanors.
