Charges have been filed against a Hannibal man in connection with a shooting and a homicide in January.

Marion County Prosecuting Attorney David Clayton announced Friday that first degree murder and armed criminal action charges have been filed against 35 year old Timothy Brokes.

Brokes is charged in connection with the shooting death of Britney Gauch in Hannibal, and the shooting of her husband, Aaron Gauch, in Marion County on January 12th.

Brokes has been in the Marion County Jail since he was charged in connection with the shooting of a Monroe City police officer later that day.

In a press release, Clayton said the jailing of Brokes on the Monroe County charges enabled his office to complete its investigation into the Marion County shootings and to research the possibility of seeking the death penalty against Brokes.

Clayton’s office is also looking into filing charges against June Smith, who was with Brokes at the time of the Monroe City incident.

Brokes first court appearance on the new charges is scheduled for May 6th.
