An investigation by city officials in Palmyra results in refunds of traffic fines to over a dozen motorists.

A St. Louis television station ran a story last weekend about a woman from St. Louis who got a speeding ticket in Palmyra.

The motorist got an amended ticket from the city, asking for a voluntary donation of $100 to the city’s law enforcement fund. She paid the traffic fine without the donation, and the payment was rejected.

An investigation revealed the donation pushed the cost of the ticket over a state mandated cap for minor traffic violations.

Then, an investigation by Palmyra’s municipal court clerk and prosecuting attorney’s office revealed that 13 motorists were charged more than the cap for traffic offenses.

Those motorists will be getting refund checks totaling just over $900.
