Tuesday, August 7 is primary election day in Missouri as voters head to the polls to vote on a host of different candidates and issues, both local and statewide.

The hottest contest on Tuesday’s ballot in northeast Missouri is for the Republican nomination for 18th District State Senator.

Incumbent state representatives Lindell Shumake, Craig Redmon and Nate Walker join businesswoman Cindy O’Laughlin in the race to see who will run in November on the GOP ballot to replace term-limited Senator Brian Munzlinger.

Another contested race features former area mayors Loren Graham and Neal Minor, Hannibal-LaGrange professor and attorney Louis Riggs and Pastor John Paul Tomko in the Republican primary to replace Lindell Shumake in the Missouri House.

Other Republican contests Tuesday include Danny Frost and Dave Lomax for Marion County Presiding Commissioner, and incumbent Talley Kendrick and John Russell running the GOP nomination for Monroe County Prosecuting Attorney.

Polls are open from 6 a.m. till 7 p.m. Tuesday.
