(Undated) – A roller coaster weather weekend probably contributed to markedly lower deer harvest numbers in Missouri.

The numbers for the first weekend of the Missouri firearms deer season from the Missouri Department of Conservation show a statewide total of 69,650 deer harvested, down a little over 20-thousand from last year.

The totals for the 15 county northeast Missouri area were also down. A total of 11,592 deer were taken in northeast Missouri, nearly five thousand less than a year ago.
The top county for deer kill in our part of the state is Macon, where 1300 deer were taken, followed by Pike County with 1,050 and 879 in Adair County.
