The opening weekend of the Missouri firearm deer season saw a slight decrease in deer harvest from a year ago.

Preliminary numbers from the Missouri Department of Conservation shows a total of 91,171 deer bagged during the opening weekend of the firearm season Saturday and Sunday.

That compares with a total of 91, 460 deer harvested in the opening weekend in 2014.

The leading county for deer kill was Franklin County with 3,147 deer taken, followed by Texas County with 3,110 and Howell County with 3,078.

In northeast Missouri, there were 2,469 deer harvested last weekend in Macon County, 2,116 in Pike County, 1,893 in Lincoln County and 1,746 in Shelby County.

Missouri’s firearm deer season continues through November 24.
