This is the weekend that back to school shoppers get a break on a lot of their purchases.

Now through Sunday is Missouri’s semi-annual sales tax holiday, when back to school purchases such as clothing, school supplies and computers, among other things, are not subject to state sales tax.

Communities have the option to opt out of the sales tax holiday, so shoppers won’t get a sales tax break everywhere.

In northeast Missouri, the communities of Palmyra, Paris, Shelbina and Vandalia, along with Audrain, Pike and Shelby counties, chose not to participate in the sales tax holiday.
