(Hannibal)—Work is scheduled to begin Tuesday on a portion of MO 79 south of Hannibal.

MODOT says Phase One will involve closing the highway from Continental Cement south of Hannibal to the Route E and N Junction near Saverton.  The segment will remain open to local traffic only; normal traffic will be routed on the signed detour.  The work will continue 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. The project includes a concrete overlay and shoulder improvements.  Phase 2 begins in mid-August. It involves the portion of MO 79 from the Fulton Avenue junction in Hannibal to the cement plant.  The project is expected to be complete by fall.
