Clarksville 34.62 as of 5a. Down from a crest at 35.33 early Monday morning with a fall to around 28 feet next Wednesday.

Flood-fighters remain vigilant in Clarksville. They’re getting national attention for its efforts to keep the Mississippi River at bay is checking and re-checking its makeshift levees.
A secondary rock and sand structure had to be built Monday after five sections of the original showed signs of weakening. More sandbags have been brought in and pumps are being used to remove seepage.

A National Guard unit from Hannibal and Americorps volunteers based in Saint Louis remain to lend help.   On Tuday afternoon, Highway 79 was still blocked by high water north and south of Clarksville.
